APPROACHING ANARCHY
ABNORMAL ECONOMIC
SITUATION
DRASTIC CHANGES POSSIBLE.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPTRIOHT.)
(AUSTRALIAN • HEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, sth August. The " Daily Telegraph's " correspondent, writing from San Sebastian, reviewing the political situation in Spain, says that the position of the Marquis de AlhucemaE (Prime Minister) is undoubtedly becoming one of the greatest difficulty. The Moroccan affair daily produces a worse feature, and the economic situation grows more abnormal. The community approaches anarchy, and the Government has been on the edge of a crisis for two weeks. It is difficult to see how it can continue without reorganisation. Various sectional strikes of bank clerks, miners, and others are indicative of the general drift towards a revolutionary strike. Fortunately the Spanish people as a whole are conservative. There may be changes, and these may produce drastic consequences, but there will be no revolution.
