FAREWELL TO PRESBYTERIAN MISSIONARIES
Nearly 150 young men, representive of the Presbyterian Biblo classes of Wellington and suburbs, gathered in St. John's Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon to farewell the Rev.' H. Davies, M.A., and the Rev. ,T. Mackenzie, LL.B.. who are shortly leaving for China. Mr. A. Martin, chairman of the District Committee of tho Bible Class Union, was in the chair. Mr. 11. Davies has been on furlough after fourteen years' service as a missionary in China, while Mr. J. Mackenzie has done splendid service amongst the Bible classes as a member and as travelling secretary. He also worked amongst the soldiers in France and in the home mission field in ihe backblocks of Auckland. Both are leaving to commence work as missionaries in the Canton villages. Stirring messages were given by ; both to the young men gathered together. At the close of the meeting Mr. and Mrs. Davies were the guests of St. John's class at lea. There were , also ' present tho Rev. Mr. Lee (Chinese-minister), Mr:' Jackson (secretary to the Chinese Consul), and a number of Chinese boys from the Chinese Mission. The Rev. Dr. Gibb, on behalf of the Presbyterian Church, wished tho missionaries and their wives God-speed in their great work. Mr. G. A. Troup. on behalf of the St. John's class, presented Mr. Davies with a twenty-five years' Bible class service badge. Mr. Davies, in replying, said he realised he had received, infinitely more from tho Bible classes than •ho could ever repay. Mr. Mackenzie, in a final message, said he believed there" were great opportunities of doing work amongst tho young manhood of China.
