MISS AMY CASTLES.
The Amy Castles season in Wellington is limited to three concerts, owing to the Town Hall being'otherwise engaged. The box plans were opened this morning at The Bristol, and the first concert takes place on next Saturday ■night and the following concerts on Tuesday and Wednesday, 14th and 15th August. Programmes of rare charm and variety have been arranged for each night. On Saturday Amy Castles will sing the "Mad Scene" from "Hamlet." This is i-egardeci as one of the most difficult arias written for a soprano. "The sinking was remarkable," said an Auckland critic, "for elegance of phrasing and expression. Where Ophe'.ia weeps and breaks into mad laughter, the artist displayed great dramatic intensity, and sang the music and words with wonderful realism, terminating with a piercing and clarion like head note at the conclusion of a chromatic scale, which was followed by a liquid and pearly sustained thrill oil A sharp, with a beautifully cadenced B in. alt." The remarkable "Octom-s" song from "It is" is also on Hie first programme. Miss Eileen Castles will sing the "Jewfl Rone" ("Faust") nnd the" "Waltz Song" ("Romeo and Juliet").
