AUCKLAND'S PROPOSED REQUEST.
1 (BI TELEGRAPH.—POTss ASSOCIATION.) , AUCKLAND, This Day. The Board of Education has decided to approach other education boards to see if they will a£ree to ask the Government to raise £1,000,000' for education purposes. The secretary, Mr. Purdie, stated that since 1916: the average attendance in the-Auckland district had increased from'4o,ooo to 56,000. Mr. M'Phail complained that a local member' of Parliament had more influence with the Department' than' the combined weight of the Education .Board. The chairman, Mr. Banks!' said the Department as a whole' treated the. Auckland Board well, and the Minister of Education'was good: to them.-
