ASHBUKTON, This Day. Ashburton is threatened! with dark-", ness owing to a shortage of coke at the power-house. The Power Board purchased plant from the Borough Council. This week it was discovered that the coke stocks were depleted, which is unusual for this time of the year. There are only eighteen bag?, whereas forty bags are required daily, urgent appeals dispatched to all quarters revealed that the shortage is general. A small consignment of coke lef' Dunedin this morning, but the position is critical.
