A POPULAR OFFICER
PI*AIN-CLOTHES CONSTABLE HEALEY.
The high esteem in which Plain-Clothes Constable T. Healey is held by his colleagues was emphasised on Tuesday by the largo number of members of both, the uniform and the detective branches of the service, who were in attendance at the social hall, Cuba street, to bid him farewell on the eve of his departure oil ! transfer to Blenheim, where, at his own request, he is to again don the uniform. Mr. W. H. Coy, J.P., presided. ! In presenting Mr. Healey, on behalf of the local police force, with a. handsome suit case and a travelling rug, the chairi man, said that the officer was extremely popular, both in civil and in public life. In doing his duty, he could always see the other side, and any person with whom he had dealings could be certain that he was getting "a fair deal." The speaker -concluded by expressing the hopethat Mi-. Healey would shortly return to Wellington on both transfer and promotion, - Appreciative remarks concerning Mr. Healey's activities were alao made by Mr. J. Scott, on behalf of the legal profession, Detectives Walsh and Eevell 1, and Mr. Tom Brennan. During- the evening- numerous_ toasts were honoured, and a clever exhibition of clog-dancing was given by Mr. Phil Barry, accompanied on the piano by Plain-Clothes Constable Murch.: Among the numerous guests were Miss Madeleine Dormer and Messrs. Doddy Hurle, Dave M'Gill, and Yernon Sellars, the well-known vaudeville artists, who contributed several if ems, which, were greatly appreciated. Cheers: were riven for Mr. Healey at the conclusion of the proceedings.
