Mr. Stanley Baldwin, Chancellor of the Exchequer, replying to a question in the House of Commons, Baid that' the average rate of interest on Britain's debt, excluding the floating debt, was about 44 per cent. Including the floating debt, it was less. This interest wa* practically all liable to income tax and super tax. If allcV'ance was made for that fact, the rate did not compare unfavourably with the rate Britain was paying to tho United States
