OCEANIC MAIL LINERS
FAST NEW STEAMERS PLANNED.

The Oceanic Steamship Company has completed plans for two 500-ft twinscrew liners, which will be commenced immediately if the United States Government accedae to the company's proposals to renew the present Australian mail contract for ten years, at a slight increase in the rates. -Mr. Samuels is now on his way to Washington to discuss the contract with the Postal Department. Tho new ships would run from San Francisco to Honolulu, Pagopago,_ and Sydney, shortening the running time to 18j days. The new vessels will have turbo-elec-tric propulsion, and will be capable of steaming at nineteen knots in ballast and eighteen knots fully loaded, and of maintaining fifteen knots on a cruising radius of 20,800 miles.
