M'Farlane3 all the world over will be interested in the publication of a. history of the olan by Mr. J. M'Farlane, who spent 20 years in. colleotinsr material for the work. A Celtic clan, die M'Farlanes formerly had their country on the western shore of Loch Lomond, but to-day they have neither lands nor chief. The M'Far lanes reoeived a setback through their 20 years' feud early in the 17th century with the Colquhouns of Luss. They slew Colquhoun and many of his clansmen in 1608, and were outlawed in oon&equenoe, with the result that they settled in Aberdeenshire under another name. The late chief is supposed fco have gone to Ajr""ica at the end 1 of the 18 th century.
