RED CROSS MATTERS

The usual considerable amount of detail work was placed before the Wellington Red Cross Committee at a meeting held yesterday afternoon, when, in the. unavoidable absence of ■ the chairman, Mr. T. Munt, Mr. J. Burnett presided. A letter was read from a New Zealander living in Scotland, asking if the committee could trace the whereabouts of his father, who was lart heard of in CHsborne. It was decided to refer the matter to the Internal Affairs Department. A letter was read from the Red Cross representative, at Pukoora, stating that she had taken up her duties there., Another letter was from the Waipukurau committee, with inquiries as to the reduction of the issue of mis-, cellaijeoua articles 1 to es-se;*ice men' at; Pukeora. The secretary stated that he had replied drawing the attention of the committee to the. necessity •of conserving Eed; Cross funds. Mr. Burnett, who represented the Red -Crocs at the. WaiMemorial meetings gave his report, and stated that aocording toVtHeir" regulations, he did not think-that they could collect-for the memorial. The committee agreed. It was reported that there were 27 ex-service patients in .the Wellington Hospital. Correspondence was received from the New Zealand executive with regard to the wo|k to be undertaken by ; the Red Cross nurse (Sister Webster), j who is shortly returning from her train- | ing in England. It was decided to .delay answering until they had heard from the other centres with regard to the matter. A letter was received from the British and Foreign Sailors' Society (England), thanking the committee for gifts of warm garments.
