THE HUTT ROAD
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l would like to ask if any of the members, of the.. Hutt County Council have had the pelasure recently of driving over that ploughed field between Mason's Gardens and the Silveretream Gorge, which is commonly known as the Hutt road. In wet weather this part of th© road is a- menace to the safety of travellers, as one has always to choose one of two evils—that of bumping and jolting over "hills and dales," or that of the risk of skidding into the ditch on either side of the "road. The policy which the Hutt County Council has pursued hitherto, i.e., that of dropping a few spadefuls of metal in a few of the "gullies," just when and where ie the spirit has moved it Jto do so, is, to say-the least, a use- 4 less and short-sighted one, and one which the newly-elected council would do well to improve upon.—t am, etc., BETTER LATE THAN NEVER. sth May. ■
