WINGATUI SAFE
EXPERIENCES A GREAT SHAKING UP.

CHRISTCHURCH, 7th May.
The Wingatui arrived at Lyttelton shortly after 4 p.m. to-day. The vessels undamaged, though the engines have had a good shaking. The after hold was not flooded, as previously reported, this measure being kept as a last resovfc. CajJtaiu Paiii was for 32 hours on the bridge. No seas were shipped, the vessel being too hign out of tue water for that. ■
At about 7.30 p.m. on Sunday the' captain gave orders to prepare the boats for an emergency. Until the danger was over it was impossible for the crew' to lie or even sit down, so badly was the vessel bering tossed about. The ship's company speak in terms of high praise of Captain Paul's seamanship.
