WESTMINSTER GLEE SINGERS.

Old friends are welcoms in whatever guise they come, and because they will introduce to us old friends in music, many of which have not been heard for years, Mr. Edward Branscombe's Westminster Glee Singers, who open a brief farewell season at the Town Hall on Saturday next, may confidently look forward to an enthusiastic welcome. Another feature that appeals is the fact that every man is an artist, and every boy is possessed of a soprano voice of exceptional quality, and no two of them are alike. Since.the last Wellington season early in January, the Westminster Glee Singers have been augmented by two more importations from London, namely William Lowry-alto, and Edmund Walter, soprano. The latter is considered one of the finest boy sopranos in England. Commenting on the company's recent appearance at Dunedin, the critic of the "Otago Daily Times" said:—"The claims that 'the boys are all British, the men are all British, and the music is all British* was transgressed as regards three or four of the musical items, but the excellence of these justified their inclusion. One of these ('The Image of the Rose') took the mind back about fifty years, when it was introduced to Australasian notice by lima de Murzka ('the Hungarian Nightingale'), who had the advantage of a humming accompaniment by the leading musical society of Melbourne. Naturally, last night's accompaniment was not able to hold its own against the Melbourne Liedertafel in volume, but it suffered nothing in comparison as regards artistry. The three outstanding features of the vocalism are its purity of production, the blending of tne voices, and the perfect balance maintained. Nor is this to be wondered at, considering the source from which j the singers are drawn." The box plan' opens at The Bristol to-morrow morning.
