WAKATU v. PETONE.

: The clash between Wakatu and" Petone left nothing in doubt as to which was the better team, the former winning decisively by 4 .goals to 1. Petone were the aggressors while their condition lasted, but, as the game progressed, they were continually forced back within their own circle by the combined efforts of the fast, nippy, Wakatu men. From the bully, Petone carried the fight to their- opponents' line, but Wakatu forwards, perceiving the weakness of the suburban team's combination, waited'an opportunity, and, intercepting the ball from the oncoming attackers, quickly carried it to the net, W. Hood notching the goal. Petone returned to the assault, but this time their efforts raet with .better success, and Cavell succeeded in finding the net. Following' this, Stratton scored twice in succession for the town men, and W. Hood added the fourth point.

The game was marred by "too much whistle," and it appeared that the referee was rather exacting. W. Hood, the Wakatu skipper, made amends for his mediocre display of the previous week by scoring twice, and Stratton, who also found the net on two occasions, made no mistakes when the opportunity offered. He always shines at the bully, and his forte is making openings for the other members of his team. The backs, on the whole, gave a very good display, Teward, at half, playing a very reliable game. Cavell was the pick of the Petone forwards, who showed plenty of dash, but lacked combination. Scott, on the half-linej played up to his usual good form, and the full-backs stood up to the Wakatu men very confidently.

Mr. A. J. Cathie was referee.
