ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

ANNUAL REPORT.

0 Many matters of interest are dealt with in the annual report of the Wellington branch report of the St. John Ambulance. Association. The report states that the conference between the association and the Red Cross Society has not been resumed, and continues: —

"Our chief secretary at St. John's Gate, London, in reply to "our request for directions in the matter of co-ordination with the Red Cross Society, hoped we would' successfully carry on peace time work together. The local Red Cross Society has now for some time been carrying on classes in first aid and home nursing, and issuing certificates, although the late chairman, the Hon. Dr. W. E. Collins, C.M.G., stated on several occasions in public and in conference that St. John Ambulance Association would be undisturbed in its educational work and classes."

During the year new classes in first aid and home nursing were held in Khandallah and Johnsonville for the first time. The Marist Brothers, Newtown, took first aid. St. Anne's Convent Schools had a very large class in home nursing. Classes were also held in Newtown, Wesley School, St. Peter's, Petone, Palmerston North, Levin,, Napier, -Wanganui, and Woodford House Girls' Colleges.

Mr. C. P. Powlea has resigned from his long trusteeship of quarter's funds, and Mr. E. W. Hunt has been appointed in his place. The death of - Captain Sandham removes a very efficient and valued worker for the association and brigade. Ihe Macarthy Trustees have again recognised the association's educational work by a.grant of. £50.

A detailed account is also given of the chief branches of activity m Wellington, the District Nursing Guild, the Wellington Nursing Division, the Wellington South Nursing Division, as well as that of Wanganui sub-centre, which is a thoroughly active and useful institution. The work includes remedial and instructional activities of a very high order, and in each case an increase of usefulness is shown.
