RUGBY REFEREES

DISCUSSION OF EULES, The chief topic at the Wellington Rugby Referees Association meeting, held in the V.M.C.A. rooms last evening, Mr. A. E. Neilson, chairman, presiding, was the decision of recent conference at Christchurch on the rules of the game. , ' In the majority of cases the decisions of the conference were approved and aclopted. In regard to the following : "That a scrummage be defined according to the latter reading of the definition, thus: 'A scrummage, which can only take place in the field of play, is formed by players closing lip in readiness to allow the ball to be put on the ground between them,' " the meeting unanimously decided to oppose the proposed alteration, which would do away with the loose scrum. "That in" the case of heeling-back over the goal-line, deliberately throwing into touchy etc., the referee should blow his whistle, and order the scrummage or

free-kick respectively, without waiting for the appeal." Ifc was decided to refer this back to the executive .'of the N.Z.R.R.A., as it was an alteration to the rules, and was thus ultra vires.. It was pointed out that the executive of the N.Z.R.R.A. had had very little opportunity of perusing the order paper. ' "If the player claiming the mark be ■injured in catching the ball, and have to .leave the field, the question of who shall take the kick or the ordering of the scrum (if the marker cannot take the kick but does not leave.the field) in default of the kick being taken, be^ left to the discretion of the referee." It was decided to refer the matter back to the executive of the N.Z.R.R.A., suggesting that a scrum be ordered in every case, 31 r. G. Hoare was elected a member, and Messrs. W. M'Mahoh and D. Calcinai were proposed for membership.

Jones tries to cure pains that come from inside by treating them from the outside! You' & think that he would know that the pains of Gout, Lumbago, and Rheumatism are caused by an excess of uric acid in the system, and that he would fly to Rheuino, which actually- neutralises the acid! A large bottle of Rheumo contains a week's treatment; it seldom fails to relieve the pain and .drive out the cause of the trouble. 4s 6d from all chemists and stores.
