GOVERNMENT WALK-OVER
FORECAST FOR ELECTIONS
CONSTANTINOPLE THE CRUX.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—«OPIRI««T.) (REUIER'S TELEGRAM.)
(Received 16th April, 12.30 p.m.)
CONSTANTINOPLE, 15th April.
The elections seem likely to result in a complete walk-over for Government candidates. Hitherto not a single Opposition candidate has appeared. On the contrary, the People's Party. is overwhelmed with applications from wouldbe candidates, many belonging to the late Opposition, and also to the Party of Union and Progress; but the Government is taking no chances, especially in Constantinople, which is considered suspect. Consequently, all the leading Nationalists, including Mustapha Kemal, are standing in Constantinople in order to prevent the Unionists scoring there.
