FIRES IN THE CITY
The Fire Brigade received two calls on Saturday evening, the first, at 8.55 p.m.. to the premises at 129, Manners street, known as the I.X.L. Restaurant,. The building, which was owned by Mr. J. W. Helyer and occupied by Mr. George Peter Popovic, was very badly damaged. The explosion of a kerosene stove is stated to have been the cause of the outburst.
The second call was received at 9.2 p.m. to the one-roomed wood and iron bach owned by Mr. James O'Uonnell and occupied by James Brother-son. The place, which is situated at 12, Tainui terrace, was totally destroyed.
