FIFTY YEARS

THORNDON METHODIST CHURCH.

The meetings and services arranged for the jubilee church anniversary of the Molesworth Street Methodist Church are now in progress. The officials sought to reach old attendants and adherents of the church by invitations, and the response has proved gratifying. The young people's concert, which had to be repeated, was given before two large audiences last Tuesday and Saturday. The Rev. J. J. Lewis, of Auckland, who, forty-nine years ago, was minister in charge, conducted services on Sunday, the jubilee thanksgiving service was h^ld in the morning. A young demonstration, at which Sunday school scholars and Bible class members were present, took place in the afternoon, when a juvenile choir led the singing, and also rendered two pieces. Misses Elsie Worboys and Mabel Hobman sang a duet. In the evening, an ideal Methodist service, marked by fervent singing and earnest, eloquent preaching, was held. The congregations were large, and great heartiness characterised each service. The Rev. J. J. Lewis's, sermons, reviewing the past and inspiring for the future, choice and chaste in language, were much appreciated. The choir, with Mr. R. E. Flaws as conductor and Miss Doris ■* Worboys as organist, rendered special anthems. Many of the old Methodist residents, including some of the former ministers of the congregation, have sent promises to attend next Wednesday's re-union tea meeting and the jubilee demonstration, at which Mr. Isaac Clark will preside.
