! LEVER AGAINST BRITAIN IN EAST. ■ NEW YORK, 11th April. The "New York World's" Washington correspondent says that the Angora Assembly's ratification of the American Chestar concession" to Turkey, while not quite a surprise, in official circles here, nevertheless is considered sudden. General Goethals. who built the Panama Canal, and is President of the Chester firm, hurried to consult the State Department, whose experts freely admit the responsibility which the concession put«> upon the United States. The United States i6 now compelled to participate in problems growing out of the Turkish question, and the Eastern mandates. The feeling is that Angora acted quickly because she desires American capital in Turkey. The latter will now probable use the United States against Britain and France in Mosul questions and other Near Eastern problems. The Constantinople correspondent of the "Daily Express" recently reported that a. comprehensive American scheme for the reconstruction of Turkey in- J eludes the transformation of Angora into | a dream city containing the outstanding features of London, Paris, New York, -and Washington. The syndicate also proposes to run sugar refineries, enTnjre in. afforestation, build a network of railways, roads, bridges, canals, and irrigation works, establish schools of agriculture and engineering, and health centres and hotels under the direction of tourist travel companies. This is merely a summary of the all-embracing j truets, the proposed tentacles reaching to the uttermost parts of Anatolia. The proposals indicate that thouall the Unit- j ed States is averse to sharing European political burdens, American business man are determined to share any concessions onering. /
