TAIHAPE, This Day.
The nominations received for the big sports meeting at Taihape thi» month constitute a New Zealand record. The four chops attracted 214 nominations, tho two saws 41, and the six remaining events 172. The total nominations for twelve handicap events i 5.427. There are EL competitors in the £160 chop. 61 in.each of two 12-inch chops, and 41 in the underhand chop for £100. For the Sheffield 120 yards there are 35 entries, 33 in the hundred yards handicap. Twentyseven nominated for the half-mile, and twenty-one, for ihc mile handicap.
Modern and Victorian girls were compared .it the aunual meeting of the Union of Girls' Clubs at Liverpool by Lady Thurlow, who said hi her day girls wore just as wild and uncontrollable 7ts the Georgian girls, and wore flippant n'.nl flighty. It was . possible Hie present-day jrirl was rather better. If tho Victorian girl had a point in hei' favour, it w;ia thnt if she toolc on a job ahi- thick to it.
