Mr. F»rrant_ brougfit up the question of discrepancies in the loan and grant system. He said two men with identical claims came along. One aaked for a loan of £50 and tho other for a grant of £20. Both might be granted. The man with the loan ipaid baok £10, and then disappeared, keeping £40. This allowed of different treatment. Mr. Hope Gibbons 6aid no hardandfast, rule could be laid down. The fact that Auckland did not give loans was mentioned by Mr. V. P. Lamer. They made grants only. An opposite policy was stated by Mr. J. J. Doußall. who said they gave loans on tho ground that both the soldie? and the society were protected. If a man was not successful he had still a chance of a Brant. Mr. Hope Gibbons mentioned the system of loans not only to disabled men. Tho plan was to dc everything for the good of the returned man. Other than disabled men were able to be assisted and the society lost nothing. No decision was reached on the subject. Matters concerning tho reduction of the number of jociotiee and administration. espeoaei were conadeced in committee. '
