SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES
. FROM FRENCH NOTE TO ANGORA,
(AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.! (Received Ist February, ll a.m.) LONDON, 31s^ January. Serious consequences are anticipated -iom the French Note to Angora. The . rench Government communicated with ijritain, explaining France's intentions, declaring that every effort would be made to avoid a rupture, which would be prejudicial to French interests, but the Note to Angora was published before Lord Curzon received the French dispatch. ■
The French action has occasioned great agitation among the British delegation, which has issued a statement discrediting the reported issue of the French Note to Angora, remarking that it would be-a flagrant violation of the nufcual undertaking given by the Allied jlenipotentiaries only a few days ago . Euch a Note were issued without reference to the British delegation.
[It was officially stated yesterday that France has informed Britain, Italy, and Angora that she does not consider that the draft Treaty represents ..the final terms, and intimates that she is prepared independently to negotiate the disputed points wilh Angora.]
