PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of the Petone Borough Council was held on Monday. A bylaw relating to the health of the borough ;was passed, subject to confirmation in twenty-eight days. The town clerk was authorised to pay the Taita Cemetery Board a subsidy of £25.

Arrangements with the holder of the debentures for a renewal of the £20,000 sewage drainage loan, due on 25th February, were left in 4i.e hands of the town cleerk to report the terms to the next meeting of'the council. It was. decided to give the town clerk aeuthority to raise £14,000 at' 5| per cent, for a term of thirty years, in order to renew the council's portion of a consolidated loan which is now due. It is probable that the. balance of the loan, which was taken over from the council by the Gas Board, wijl be raised on similar terms. LOWER-HUTT. A meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Counci was. held on Monday. ■ The Lower Hutt Municipal Band wrote stating thaj; the band intends to give its fourth concert on .Sunday, 4th February, and asking for improvements to be made to the bandstand in the Recreation Ground. It was decided that, temporary seating be provided in the rotunda. Mr. J. Alexander and others wrote drawing the council's attention to the overgrown state of the footpath and road in Copeland street, and the matter was referred to the engineer. A deputation from the Hutt Miniature Rifle Club waited on the council asking for assistance in finding a site, owing to the Defence Department declining them the use of the Drill Hall. Councillor M'Bain suggested that the council should use its influence with the Defence Department and get permission for the club to use the hall, but it was decided that a committee, consisting of the Mayor, Councillors Meldrum and M'Bain should try and arrange for a suitable site. Miss. Rose Ross, of Petone, through her solicitors, wrote claiming damages for injuries received by the Hutt motor fire engine colliding with a taxi-car ,on Bth January. Captain Slinn stated that he was not responsible for the accident.
