About 150 of the members of the ere%, and officers of the Jules Michelet werei present at the Sailors' Friend Society last evening. A most enjoyable evening was spent in the usual manner, about 130 guests being present, apart from thj French visitors. The preparations for the evening were under the ■ control- of Messrs. Dunn and Culpiis. ' Mailame" M'lntosh, secretary of the French.Club, ..acted as interpreter. At the close of the evening^ M. Emm, on behalf of the visitors, made the following address :— "A few words of thanks for the charming evening that you have given u5.,....The sailors have never had an opportunity in any other place they have visited to mix with the people as they have in New Zealand, so they will never forget it.. "Whim we are away from New Zealand although not with you in the flesh we will be with you in thought. If at any time perilthreatens yon you can rely upon.our help and sympathy. . . We thank you all again for your kind reception, which makes our link still closer. Three.cheer*' for New Zealand land her dear, people;" Those cheers were given lustily by the visitors.
