EMPIRE AIRSHIPS

AUSTRALIA TO ENGLAND^

TRIP TO TAKE SEVEN DAYS

BURNffTS SCHEME CONSIDERED,

(UNJTFD PBBS3 ASBOCTAHOJI.—COPTBIBMT.)

fcWSmiMAH - -SEW ZtALAND CABLE ASSOCttTIOH.) LONDON, 29th January.

The Duke of Sutherland; Under-See-retary to the Air Ministry, speaking at the Authors' Club on air problems, said: "The Imperial airship scheme for Australia will be considered again by the Dominions' Premiers at their meeting this year." He added that he hoped the results would be' more fruitful than on the last occasion.

Sir Keith Smith said: "When in Australia I discussed Admiral Burney's scheme with Mr. W. M. Hughes, and tried to get Australia to come in at their end. M:\ Hughes was very favourable, and recognised that flying is unquestionably the coming method of transport. Mr. Hughes told me that if he could assist the scheme to bring Australia nearer to the Mother Country he would do all in his power."

Sir Keith added: "The general public of Australia favour Admiral Burney's scheme. When I pointed out that it would be possible to bring business men to Britain in seven days the business interests were much impressed. At present they are out of touch, for a trip Home takes threo months, and they are not keen to waste the time. For this alone they would welcome flying."
