UMBRELLA RETURNS
There is no unemployment in the branch of Ui© Sheffield steel trade which makes tho eteel for umbrella frames. The umbrella, has come into fashion again (declares a Sheffield correspondent of the "Manchester Guardian"). Welldressed' men- now carry the hook-handled umbrella, on many occasions when a downpour of rain is not at all likely. They do not now consider the practice effeminate since the Kinfr and Prince of Wales have made a practice of. appearing in public carrying a folded umbrella. Newspaper illustrations and topical films haw helped to spread the idea that to cany an umbrella is now the proper thing. Makers of the special steel which bends with the wind when ao umbrella, is open did very poorly when' nearly every man was in ■military uniform, and there was a fair proportion of women also in khaki. The lost habit of using an umbrellahas been slow in returning, but it is at last being regained, thanks to the example that Royalty has set. The umbrella that will hang on tho disengaged arm makes fewer .journeys to tho lost property office, and is the type that is most in favour among men.
