POST AND TELEGRAPH RATES

TO OPERATE FROM THURSDAY*

In addition to the reductions in postal rates and charges for telegrams already announced, the following reductions also will take effect from Thursday, Ist February.. The rates at present in operaj tion are shown in parentheses :—

Undelivered inland printed matter. — Undelivered inland printed matter prepaid Id, which bears a special request for its return to the sender, or which Is o£ intrinsic value, will be returned and charged Id (lid). Money orders (by telegraph).—Payable in New Zealand: Id for each pound or fraction thereof, but with a minimum charge of 6d, plus a tekfraph fee of Is if order is sent by ordinary telegram, or 2s if it is sent by urgent telegram (telegraph fee for ordinary money order telegram Is 6d, urgent money, order telegram 3s).

Savings-bgnk telegrams.—Ordinary, 9d for twelve words; urgent, Is 6d for twelve words (Is and 2s respectively).

Inland multiple telegrams.—The additional fee for each address after the first shall be: For ordinary telegrams 4£d, urgent telegrams 9s (6d and Is respectively).

Weather telegrams for farmers. —Telegrams from farmers addressed " Weather, Wellington," seeking information as to the state of the weather shall be charged Is for the message and reply (Is 6d per message). Private mail bags.—The rates for private mail bags carried by contractors will be: £2 per annum for the first bag; £1 Tor the second bag; half-rates if delivery is taken at post office where bag is made up. (Carriage by mail contractor, £2 10s first bag; £1 5s second bag; delivery from post office, £1 10s.) For private mail bags carried otherwise than by contractor, where the cost 1 of carriage does not exceed contractors' rates, foregoing reduced rates apply; where it exceeds contractors', rates, £1 per annum, plus actual cost of carriage.
