PALMERSTON N., This Day. The month of January has been very wet localrfr./hardly a day having passed since the beginning of the year 011 which rain has not fallen. Another heavy downpour was registered on Saturday.The total .for, the' month is 8.74 inches. The weather 'is still unsettled, and the fall is expected to reach nine inches before the end of the month, a remarkable figure for a summer month. . A flood in the Manawatu River caused considerahle erosion at the Fit^roy bend, the weakest place, in the bank in the borough.
