DOCTOR DIVORCED
• (SX TEIEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) OHRISTOHURCH, 26th January. At the' Supreme Court to-day, Alice May Russell petitioned for a divorce £tom Dr. Gerald Warren Russell, on the grounds of desertion.. The parties were married in England in June, 1907, and lived in England and Christchnrch. There were no children. Tho petitioner's evidence, taken in England, said she lived happily with tho respondent until 1918, when they were at the Waldorf Hotel, London. She then noticed that he was not affectionate in his manner, having quite changed; and since then they had not lived as husband and wife. After serving in tho war Russell returned to Christchurch, but did not send for her. She borrowed money and came out to New Zealand, arriving in 1919. Tho respondent wrote to her saying that ho had quite made up his mind that'ho could not bear the idea of married life any more. She saw him, but ho gave no explanation, and refused to resume the ordinary life of husband and wife. She returned to England, having lost all hope of recovering his affections. He allowed her £?2 a month for maintenance.
Tho petition was undefended, and a de creo nisi was granted'
