DUNDALK SENSATION
HOW THE GAOL WAS MINED
EXTENSIVE REBEL OPERATIONS.
LONDON, 27th July, The mine which breached the wall of Dundalk gaol and enabled 105 prisoners to -escape was laid under cover of darkness and cleverly connected with the Dundalk electric supply. When it was fired a tremendous explosion shook the town and smashed windows over a wide radius. The gaol walls were very thick, but the breach made was sufficient to enable the prisoners to escape in single file. Fifty were recaptured this evening, including a wounded brigadier. Simultaneously with the explosion, extensive rebel operations were carried out elsewhere. Roads were blocked in various directions, and railway signal boxes were set on fire. ■ '.'
