The", late Detective Andrews, who was regarded as an excellent police officer, was highly respected. He leaves a widow, three sonsj and one daughter to mourn their loss.

A GRACEFUL TRIBUTE. Referring to the late Detective-Ser-geant Andrews, Inspector M'llvemey said to-day :—'; His serious illness, when he was believed to be in a robust state of bealthj was quite unexpected, and the news of liis death .came a. a shock to both officers and men of the Wellington police. He will be missed from among them. He was a hard-working, honesty sympathetic official, who did his duty both to tlie satisfaction of the Department and to the general public. He was one of the ablest detectives, not only in Wellington, but probaby in the Dominion. During lateT years at Wellington he was entrusted with the investigation of the more serious complaints on the criminal side; and he carried out his duties in a highly satisfactory and kindly way. His sympathy and consideration were notable on every occasion when he placed before the Court the career of a person who was called up for sentence. On no occasion did he ever fdil to give the unfortunate prisoner the benefit of every conceivable consideration that could be extended to him by a police official. He will, as I have said, be sadly missed from the force here."
