GENEROUS DONATIONS

The Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.) announced • to-day that he had accepted most gratefully, on behalf of the Unemployment Fund, the generous offer of Messrs. Taylor and Hawking, meat auctioneers, Cuba-street, to donate a whole bullock, to be distributed among the families in distress in the city through unemployment of the breadwinner. The first distribution of half the bullock will take place on Saturday, when joints of a suitable 6ize will be handed out in the Town Hall for deserving cases. The other half of the bnllock will be distributed later on in the week. The Mayor desires to express his cordial thanks for this generous gift; Applicants for the meat must bring with them on Saturday written evidence to show how many children or other dependants there are in the household. Witnesses to this may be ministers of religion, J.P.s, or other responsible citizens.

Mr. D. M'Kenzie, of Levin, has given five tons of turnips to the Mayor's Unemployment Fund, and the Railway Department has agreed to bring them :to Wellington free of.freight charge. The Mayor expresses gratitude for the donation. , .
