THORNDON CIRCUIT

At the circuit quarterly meeting held at Karori'on Monday there was a,large and thoroughly representative gathering of officials from each part of the circuit, in addition to tho ministers, Revs. C. 0. Harrison (chairman) and 6. E. Brown. After allowing for deaths and removals of members, the new members by profession, and others received by transfer, the number- waa equal to last quarter, viz., 234. The junior membership has increased by 50 and preparation meetings are being hold in view of a public reception into the Church Three young men are now on probation as lay preachers, and the meeting authorised that "notes" be given another th^6 to take part in conducting services witli the object of being qualified as fully accredited preachers. Sunday morning and Tuesday evening services are to be commenced at Kaiwarra. The promised visits of Rev. C. H. Laws, D.D., president of the conference, and Rev. T. G. Brooke, Home Mission secretary, were arranged for. The circuit stewards notified the meeting of their intention to invite both the circuit ministers for a fourth year at next meeting. The matters of circuit finance, and the appeal for the unemployed received from Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., Mayor of Wellington, were remitted to the Circuit Finance Committee. After meeting the levies and charges for the quarter the credit-balance was reduced to £10 ls. 9<d. It was reported that £10 12s 9d hajl been raised for the Russian Famine Fnnd, £62 0s 6d for Foreign Missions, £14 lis lid for Church Trusts, £3 2s 6d for -tjie British and Foreign Bible Society, £4 18s lid for the Connexional Young People's Department, besides other a-ijiounts for Orphanage and Home Missions. It is hoped that the appeals for the CentenaTy and Home Mission Funds will be completed during the current quarter.
