PRINCESS MARY'S WEDDING GIFT

The following letters are forwarded from the Red Cross Society in regard to the wedding gift to Princess Mary from Red Cross workers and V.A.D.'s in New Zealand :— "Wellington, 26th June, 1922. "Dear Sir,—By the last English mail I received a letter from Lady Ampthill, who, as you know, was the prime' mover in the matter of inviting the Red Cross workers and V.A.D.'s of the Empire to subscribe towards a wedding gift for H.R.H Princess Mary. Lady Ampthill^ states that the gift took the form of a diamond and emerald tiara, and that a deputation, on which the Dominions were represented, wept to Buckingham Palace on 13th February, and presented the tiara, to Princess Mary. Her Royal Highness was deeply touched by the gift, and forwarded to Lady Ampthill a letter, of which a replica is enclosed, expressing her warm appreciation and thanks.. I should be grateful if you would let your centre and sub-oentres know of Princess Mary's letter of thanks, and if you would also tell them how grateful I am for their ready and generous response to my invitation. I may add that the total subscribed by New Zealand was £111 10s.—Believe me, yours faithfully, "(Signed) Gwendoline Jellicoe.' 1 [COPY.] "Buckingham Falaoe.— "Dear Lady Ampthill,—l am deeply toadied at the. beautiful present which has been given to me this morning by you on behalf of V.A.D. members from all over the Empire on the occasion of my approaching marriage. "Please tell them how grateful I am, and how much I shall always value this generous gift as the expression of the affectionate good wishes of the Service to which I ani so proud to belong.
