SYDNEY, 10th July. The Board oJLTrade has commenced an inquiry; concerning the- conditions of the rural industries and their ability to bear, the burden of the basic wage of £3 16s fixed last October. The president of the Farmers and Settlers' Association gave evidence.that the present' wage was too high and was retarding production to a very great extent and throwing men out of employment in a wholesale way. He advocated a wage of 35s a week and found, stating that he would not differentiate between married and single men. The hearing was adjourned.
