Mr. Thomas Pollard, junr., son of Mr. Tom Pollard., has been appointed lecturer and demonstrator of electrical engineering at Canterbury College.

By the death last week of Mr. Jabez Bigwood, Southland has lost one of hei earliest pioneers. Mr. Bigwood, who was born at Westbury, Wiltshire, England, came to the .Dominion fiftyone years ago, and after being engaged in railway contracting in other parts of. Southland, settled at Bluff twenty-five years ago, and remained there until his death. ',; , •
Mr. John M!Crorie, manager of the Renown Clothing Company, who is going to take up a similar position with a large concern in Dunedin, was presented on Saturday with a memento of his connection with the company and • the high esteem in which he was held by the directors. V
The funeral of the late Mr. Alfred Henry Waters was held: yesterday, the interment taking place at Karori Cemetery. The Yen. Archdeacon Johnson conducted the service at St. Paul's ProCathedral, and at. the ; graveside.. -Tlie chief mourners, were Messrs. A.. A. S.
