HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
The House Of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m.
.Sir John Luke (Wellington North) presented a petition from F. Burton Mabin, praying for reinstatement in the Public- Service, or, in lieu thereof, compensation for loss, of office.
! Mr. T. M. Wilford (Hutt) gave notice to ask the Minister of Finance, whether, in considering the question of wage reduction in the Public Service, he would have regard to the position of men in all, branches of the service, including the .railway employees, and note the following in regard to such Tailway men:— Outside, unskilled workers received bonuses and increases during the war period i amounting to 6s 2d per day on the basic wage. In the railway service all workers received bonuses which were ultimately consolidated, and made wages, amounting to 6s per d;vy. The Arbitration Court has now ruled that outside labour must suffer-a reduction of 5s per week as from 15th May, while members of the railway service have already had a reduction of from 6s to 8s per week as from Ist January last, and the possibility of a further 6s to 8s per week as from Ist, July.
