TO-DAY'S PROCEEDINGS
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL
The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m.
The Hon. W. J. Geddis was granted seven days' leave of absence on account of illness. -
Sir William Fraser moved a motion expressing appreciation of the services of the late Hon. Seymour Thome George, M.L.C., and sympathy with his relatives. The motion, feelingly supported by the Hons. J. P. Campbell and T. W. Hislop, was passed. The Hon. G. M. Thomson gave notice of a question asking whether, in view of the eConomy to be secured by the use of pulverised coal, the Government will set aside one of the short railway lines for, an exhaustive trial. He mentioned the extraordinary cheapness of the fuel, and added that some time ago, the Government sold ,to ,the Westport Coal Company coal slack suitable for use as pulverised, fuel for sixpence per ton. The council adjourned at 2.42 p.m., out of respect to the lafc Mr. Thorne George.
