SEAMAN KILLED
FALL FROM A LADDER,
A fall from a rope ladder hung over the side of the steamer"Slaiatua, berthed at the- King's -"Wharf, resulted in the death of an able teaman named George Qeorgeson last: evening. ■ The man had been ashore, and had only climbed a few feet up the ladder when lit slipped and fell into the water. It is thought that in" falling his head struck one of the big wooder fenders, used, according to regulations, to keep vessels four'feet from the wharf when moored alongside overnight. Two of Georgeson's companions jumped to his assistance, and quickly had him back on'the wharf. Constables Cleverley and Munro. applied artificial respiration, but Dr. Faulke, who was summoned, could only pronounce life to, be extinct. The body was removed to the morgue.; The deceased, who was about 50 years of age, was a native of Scotland, and so fax as is known he had ho relatives in the Dominion.
An inquest will be held to-morrow.
