Official trade reports disclose that Germany is not only regaining lieu? former trad© in Japan, but is surpassing it.. The value of imports from* Germany during the' year ended. Ist June totalled 83,000,000 yen, which is 22,000,000 yen above the average of the ten years immediately before the war. In 1902, German imports were -valued at 4S,CG6 yen. In 1920 the amount reacli«di 13,.Q0P,00Q yen; in 1921, 47,000,000 yen; and, ipv the five months of the current year,'4B,ooo,ooo yen.
