KING'S THEATRE.

The change of programme at the King's Theatre is a delightful one. Variety is .the keynote of the whole entertainment, and. the pictures' included are of the best. The opening item is the usual Topical Budget, in which space is devoted to the Prince's tour in India. A picturesque piece of filming entitled "Korearing Around Korea" is explained 'by ita title, whilst a Mermaid comedy, "April Fool," is reminiscent of the earlier comedies of Charlie "Chaplin. The picture of the evening was undoubtedly "Hail the Woman," a Thomas Inco drama featuring no less than ten stars, chief of whom was Florence Vidor. The story', deals with the puritanical, and the intensity with which its unbending doctrinism is carried out by many church folk in the older lands. The bigoted, head-strong father; who rules hie family with a rod of iron and brings up his son to a career in the church, when that son is by no means fitted for such an office ; the girl-wife, loyal to death, who does not disclose this boy's secret marriage with her; the beautiful sister of the boy >and her sensational exit from the puritanical roof-tree, and her dramatic return to it years afterwards with the allsupreme objective of righting the wrongs of, the child-wife and to clear the honour of her little nephew; these aro some of the elemente that contribute to a forceful and dramatic story. A delightful iTeat during the evening were solos by 'Miw Gwen Spanswick. She has a sweet soprano voice of great flexibility and beautifully trained, and fo insistent •were tho audience last night that she had to respond to a double encore. The orchestra, under the baton of Mr. L. D. Austin, played .selections from Wallace's "Maritana." The programme will be repeated this evening and during next ,week.
