LOWER GRADES.
Junior. Owing to the absence of the selected referee, Mr. R. Duncan, of Petone, took the whistle in the South Petone-City match. City had tho disadvantage of two men short. The game throughout was very ragged, South Petone showing better combination, and from a loose scrum H. Riddell (South Petone) scored a try, which was not converted. South Petone 3, City nil. In the second spell, the City half-back, securing possession of the ball, made a dash for the Jine, and when tackled passed out to Smith, who scored. The try was not converted. The play following was uninteresting, but from a loose scrum H. Riddell again scored for South Petone. Nearing the final stage of the game a good passing rush by Petone's backs ended in H. Edlin crossing the line. The - whistle went sooh' after. Result: South Petone 9, City 3! West 20, v. Newtown 8. Third Grade. Petone South defeated City by 9 points to nil.
