SATURDAY'S PLAY.
PETONE AND NEWTOWN WIN The following are results of the senior League games played on Saturday:— ■ Pctone 13 v. Central 9. Newtown 12 v. City 6. The conditions ruling on Saturday afternoon were not conducive to good football, but the various League games were keenly contested. PETONE JUST WIN. Central put up a great fight against Petone, and the suburban team just managed to \v\n by 13 points to 9. Early in the game Central were penalised for offside play, and Riddell kicked a,, goal. Fast play followed until Anderson scored for Central, who continued to attack strongly, Wilkie and Anderson scoring tries in quick succession. After that it was Petone's game. The suburban team put new life into their play. A try by Childs. was converted by Riddell, and later Riddell himself scored. In the second spell, Petone added another try. Petone. for the first time in two years, had * narrow escape. Their win was regarded as lucky., Mr. J. Mearns was the referee. NEWTOWN SUPERIOR. The Newtown-City game was played at Emerson-street, and the Newtown backs proved superior and won the game for their team. The game was fairly fast, but the wind interfered to a great extent with the play. • Newtown scored four tries (12 points), and City two tries (6 points). j Mr. C. Wrack was referee.
