ENGLISH CRICKET TEAM

COUNCIL'S PROPOSED POLICY.

CHRISTCHURCH, 16th June.

A letter has been issued by the Management Committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council to all affiliated associations setting out the proposed policy of the committee in regard to the visit of the English amateur team under the captaincy of Ma,elaren during the coming season. The letter states: "Your committee are now able to report that arrangements have "been practically com,pleted with the M.C.C., and that an English amateur team, selected and captained by A. C. Maclareu, will play a series of matches in New Zealand and Australia next season. The present financial position of the council does not allow us to consider the; possibility of a Dominion team going on tour for some time, Tint your committee propose to establish a :reserve_ fund for this purpose. With this object in view, we. propose to shoulder the whole financial reponsibilities of tho M.C.C. torn1. In the event of the tour being the financial success ■we anticipate, the associations controlling matches on behalf of the council will be allowed not less than 10 per cent, of the net profit from their matches, the amount lo be allocated by the committee at the conclusion of the tour. We ask for the support of all associations to this -proposal, as your committee feel certain it is only by sending our players on tour periodically that we can improve our cricket to the standard which will enable us to compete on equal terms with the great centres of cricket."
