VOLUNTARY REDUCTION OF SALARIES
The Economy Committee of the Sheffield City Council, in submitting a report rceommending cuts in public expendiUire amounting-, to over £200,000, or a saving to the rates,of Is 9£d in the £1, mentioned an interesting offer which had been made to them-. This offer came from the .municipal: officers with over £500 yearly salary, who voluntarily expressed then- willingness, in view of the Financial situation, to submit to a temporary reduction <jf remuneration, ranging from 3 per cent, on the first £250 to 10 per cent, on over £1000. In the case of the Town Clerk this would mean a reduction of £250.
