TALAAT'S ORDERS
FOR ARMENIAN MASSACRES
"COMPLETE EXTERMINATION "
CONSCIENCE NOT TO INTERFERE.
(UNITE* PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPTMQHT.) (AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) • (Received May 29, 2.30 p.m.) : LONDON, 28th May. ' The Daily Telegraph publishes the authenticated text of official telegrams isent by the late Tahat Pasha, Grand , Vizier at Constantinople, 'to the Turkish Prefecture at Aleppo during 1915-16, i authorising the massacre of Armenians. The telegrams, which reveal the m'tiless savagery of the Turkish mentality, were among the documents'seized when General Alleiiby captured Aleppo. The following quotation is typical of Talaat's instructions: "As you have been previously informed, the Government has decided' on the complete extermination of all Armenians resident in Turkey, without rfegard, whether- women,: children, or invalids, and without listening to the promptings of conscience. An end must be put to their existence, however tragic be the means of extermination." Another telega-ani warns the Prefecture that :the American Consuls, -acting on the instruction of their Government, are making inquiries into tho Armenian massacres, and, therefore, it instructs, there must be no incidents of a nature to attract attention. While.the procession of Armenians being taken from , their homes is. passing our towns and larger villages, foreigners should be convinced by their observation that the Armenians are merely being deported to a. new residence. For this reason it is important to display an attitude of delicacy towards them, and only to resort to the •usual methods in favourable spots."-
