At th» Supreme Court to-day, Mateme Te Hu?,ke was admitted to probation for two years for the theft of a horse saddle, and bridle at Eotorua. Samuel Arthur Pudney, charged with obtaining £5 by false pretences, was found guilty, and sentence was deferred. Henry Maittland pleaded guilty to a charge of eembezzling £116 from the funds or a ruwing club, of which h'e was secreary, and was admitted to probation for two years. \ .
Arthur Prattey, a young man, was charged -with the misappropriation of £144, belonging to the Waitoa and Elsto-w Drainage Boards, the South. British Insurance Company, and the Waihou Hall Company. Evidence was given that the accused was a c|erk in, the employ of an engineer and agent to the companies, and a considerable amount of money passed through his hands. He acquired a love for gambling, and had used the money, intending to repay it ou£ of his winnings. He was sentenced to'reformative treatment for not more than two years.
