ANNUAL PICNIC AT DAY'S BAY

There was a record gathering of printers and their friends yesterday at Wellington's popular picnic ground at Day's Bay, the occasion being the annual outing of the staff of the Government Printing Office. The picnic was the forty-second of its kind, and approximately 700 people, young and old, attended. Amongst those present were the Hon. G. J. Anderson, Mr. Marcus Marks (Government Printer), Mr. John Mackay (ex-Government Printer), Mr. W. A. G. Skinner (superintending overseer), Mr. T. E.-Kins; (chief engineer), and all the heads of the various departments of the Government Printing Office, accompanied in most cases by their wives and families. Braund's Orchestra dispensed music on the boats and during the day on the grounds at the pavilion. Tho occasion was taken advantage of by the Minister to make eulogistic reference to the services of Mr. Marcus Marks, who is shortly relinquishing the office of Government Printer after six years in that office and forty-three years' total service. Members of the staff also added their commendations to the words of the Minister, to which Mr. Marks suit[ably replied. A special feature of the day was the ; number of children's sports, for which a large quantity of prizes had been provided by various donors.
