Apart from a high northerly conditions were again good for cricket oir Saturday afternoon. Petone, the leading team in the championship met Kutt, now runners-up, on the Basin Reserve, before a fair crowd of spectators, including supporters from the valley suburbs. The game between the two suburban teams was not productive of bright cricket. Petone, batting first, fell easily for 81 before M'Girr, Munn, and Balks, and Hutt did only slightly better with 113 for nine wickets against the bowling of Brice and Finlayson. The next best teams in the championship, Wellington and Midland, met at Petone. Wellington mado 148' and Midland 159 for four wickets. V.M.C.A. secured a similar advantage over Old Boys at Kutt, 124 for two wickets against Old Boys' complete innings of .112. Thorndon against Institute on Anderson Park made 322 in their innings, to which W. Warne contributed a fine 182. WELLINGTON v. MIDLAND;The match between Midland and Wellington was commenced on the Petone ground,, but was productive of little in the way of bright cricket. Wellington, without the help of Hiddleston and Middleton, made a weak stand against the Midland bowlers, and were unable to make a strong attack when their oppon : ent3 went to the wickets. The result was that Midland were in a good position when stumps were drawn, having a lead of s 11 runs with six wicket 3in hand. Wellington lost their first three wickets for 26 runs, but. Anderson and Jennings improved the score, and later in the innings Bruges and Eaton did likewise. Those batsmen were' the only double-figure scorers. The total reached was 148. J. Hutchings was the most successful bowler, securing five wickets for 84 rur(g. Midland's reply was bright, allthough Baker did very little scoring. Hutchison and Patrick batted aggressively and rattled on runs in good style. The partnership, was one of the few good features of the match.
